February 11

Today while out working in the Jeffersonville area I came across a red shouldered hawk high up in a tree, then some turkeys on Woodland Ct and finally a couple of sparrows in a bush. When I arrived home I got a nice female cardinal eating a sunflower seed on the feeder.

February 9th Photo Outing

Well, I woke up early this day (3:45) and decided to go out for a photo shoot.  Lynn Perry, Micah and I had discussed having an "Eagle Challenge", so thought I had better get busy and shoot something.
I started at dawn at the Lewis & Clark Bridge in Jeffersonville where there is an active eagle nest on the KY side of the Ohio River.  The dawn sky was absolutely stunning and I did manage to get a silhouette of the eagle nest (and eagle) against the fiery sunrise sky.

From there I headed to Borden and the Clark County Landfill where there is an eagle nest near the entrance.  On the way I stopped at the Clark County Regional Airport for a couple of quick sunrise shots.  Unfortunately the landfill was closed and the gates locked.  While it was too far to see with the camera I was able to confirm with binoculars that there was no activity at the nest this morning.

So up the rode I drove to Salem, IN where I had been told that there was an eagle's nest at Lake Salinda...if there is I sure couldn't find it and none of the trees looked like nesting trees.  Then I proceeded north on SR 135 to the Starve Hollow Recreation Area.  There is a nest on the access road but alas there was no activity today.  So I drove over to Brownstown, IN to see the nest on Hwy 50 but could not confirm activity there either.  My last resort was the nest in Ewing, IN and guess what...yep, no activity.

So with only one eagle shot I had to settle the day with photos of sandhill cranes, a kestral and some other birds.  Hopefully my sunrise silhouette will win the challenge, we shall see.  Enjoy
